Province of Chefchaouen: Inauguration and Launch of Several Agricultural and Rural Development Projects
The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, conducted a field visit on Saturday to the province of Chefchaouen to oversee and launch several agricultural and rural development projects within the framework of the “Green Generation” strategy.
In the commune of Talambote, the minister, accompanied by the governor of the province of Chefchaouen, Mohammed Alami Ouaddane, the vice-president of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the president of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture, professionals, elected officials, and ministry officials, assessed the progress of the solidarity agriculture program under the regional agricultural plan linked to the “Green Generation” strategy.
On this occasion, the minister launched the plantation of 500 hectares of carob trees benefiting 420 beneficiaries.
This project is part of a larger program that includes the plantation of 1,500 hectares over three years, with a total cost exceeding 42 million dirhams (MAD).
During the visit, beekeeping equipment and hives were distributed to local cooperatives at a total cost of 300,000 MAD. Additionally, the rural track development program for 2025 was presented. This program aims to reduce the isolation of rural villages and includes the construction of 60 kilometers of tracks benefiting seven rural communes and 25,800 people, with a budget of 63 million MAD.
On the same occasion, the minister inaugurated an olive oil extraction unit in the commune of Tanaqob, built and equipped at a total cost of 26.5 million MAD over an area of 11,713 m².
In the commune of Beni Derkoul, Mr. El Bouari inaugurated another olive oil extraction unit, constructed and equipped at a cost of 26 million MAD on an area of 8,421 m².
These facilities aim to enhance the olive sector and provide new economic opportunities for the region.
In a press statement, the minister noted that the visit facilitated the monitoring and launch of several agricultural and rural development projects, including the plantation of 500 hectares of carob trees as part of a broader program targeting 1,500 hectares in nine communes.
Mr. El Bouari highlighted that the two olive oil extraction units inaugurated in the communes of Tanaqob and Beni Derkoul will contribute to the development of the olive sector and job creation. He also underscored the significance of the 60-kilometer rural track development project in reducing the isolation of villages in the province and improving the quality of life for rural populations.
