Morocco Strengthens Cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean in Agriculture and Water Management

In a move that reflects Morocco’s commitment to enhancing its international partnerships and reinforcing South-South cooperation, Mr. El Bouray, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, held a bilateral meeting on Friday, February 14, with Mr. Rolando González, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, accompanied by members of the organization’s executive board, as part of their working visit to the Kingdom.

This meeting served as a fruitful platform for dialogue on ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture and water management between Morocco and Latin American and Caribbean countries to address common challenges posed by climate change, which increasingly impact food security and the sustainability of natural resources.

The “Green Generation” Strategy at the Heart of Discussions…

During the meeting, the “Green Generation” strategy was presented as a comprehensive and innovative model aimed at establishing sustainable and advanced agriculture. Discussions focused on the key pillars of this strategy, particularly those related to improving water and energy efficiency in the agricultural sector, as these are crucial elements for ensuring the sustainability of agricultural production amid climate change.

The dialogue also covered Morocco’s solutions for optimizing water resources, including drip irrigation projects, seawater desalination, and rainwater harvesting. Additionally, efforts to enhance agricultural productivity through the integration of modern technology and innovation in farming practices were highlighted.

Innovation and Agricultural Research to Strengthen International Cooperation…

Recognizing the importance of innovation in agricultural development, both parties explored opportunities for cooperation in agricultural research, knowledge exchange, and advanced technologies to develop more resilient and efficient agricultural systems. They emphasized the need to strengthen scientific and technical ties between research institutions in Morocco and their counterparts in Latin America and the Caribbean to share best practices and benefit from successful experiences in tackling environmental and economic challenges.

Towards a Strong South-South Partnership…

This meeting reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to strengthening relations with its partners in Latin America and the Caribbean within a comprehensive vision based on the principle of South-South cooperation. This commitment is reflected in the shared ambition to establish a new model of collaboration built on knowledge-sharing and the development of joint projects in agriculture and water management, serving the goals of food security and sustainable development.

This growing rapprochement between Morocco and Latin American and Caribbean nations not only strengthens bilateral relations but also paves the way for broader strategic partnerships that foster knowledge exchange and innovation, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future in the faceof climate change.
