Morocco Strengthens Its Partnership with the African Development Bank in the Agricultural Sector: A Sustainable Approach to Address Climate and Economic Challenges
As part of its efforts to promote sustainable agricultural development and empower vulnerable groups, Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues to strengthen its partnership with the African Development Bank through strategic projects aimed at supporting solidarity-based agriculture, achieving economic empowerment for rural women, and enhancing the agricultural sector’s resilience to increasing climate and economic challenges.
Solidarity-based agriculture is one of the fundamental pillars of Morocco’s vision for achieving balanced and sustainable rural development. The country seeks to improve productivity and strengthen food security through projects targeting small farmers and agricultural cooperatives within the framework of the Green Generation strategy. With the support of the African Development Bank, programs are being financed to develop production chains, improve irrigation techniques, and integrate farmers into national and international markets. These initiatives boost the sector’s profitability and enhance living standards in rural areas.
The economic empowerment of rural women represents a key focus of the cooperation between Morocco and the African Development Bank. Projects are being launched to support women-led agricultural enterprises, strengthen the role of cooperatives, and provide financing and training for women working in the agricultural sector. These initiatives contribute to enhancing women’s financial independence, positively impacting local development and improving household living conditions in rural communities.
With the escalating impacts of climate change, Morocco, with the support of the African Development Bank, is working to enhance farmers’ capacity to adapt to extreme climatic conditions by adopting climate-smart agricultural techniques, improving water resource management, and promoting ecological farming. These efforts also include developing desalination plants, implementing modern irrigation systems, and supporting scientific research in climate and agriculture.
This partnership between Morocco and the African Development Bank is part of a comprehensive dynamic aimed at making agriculture a more resilient and sustainable sector—one that can ensure food security, improve rural living conditions, and strengthen Morocco’s position as a regional hub for agricultural innovation and investment.
This strategic cooperation reaffirms Morocco’s commitment to advancing its agricultural sector not only as an economic driver but also as a key factor in achieving sustainable development and social justice, based on an inclusive vision rooted in innovation and environmental sustainability.
