Morocco Hosts the Sixth World Conference on Soil and Water Conservation in Rabat
In a landmark scientific gathering that reinforces Morocco’s status as a hub for major events on agricultural sustainability, the Moroccan capital, Rabat, will host the Sixth World Conference on Soil and Water Conservation from September 15 to 16, 2025. This international event underscores the Kingdom’s deep commitment to addressing climate challenges and ensuring food security.
Organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, the conference is spearheaded by the National Institute of Agricultural Research, in partnership with the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), the African Plant Nutrition Institute, “OCP Nutricrops,” and many national and international institutions. These include the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Water Management Institute, UNESCO, the International Center for Training and Research on Erosion and Sedimentation, as well as Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, the National School of Agriculture in Meknes, the National School of Forestry Engineers in Salé, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, “Al Moutmir,” and various research institutes, laboratories, and Moroccan industries.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Resilient Landscapes: Innovations and Traditions for Climate-Adapted Soil and Water Conservation,” bringing together a distinguished group of scientists, experts, and researchers, alongside representatives of professional organizations, government institutions, and private sector actors. This international platform will provide an opportunity to address the major challenges facing soil and water in the context of climate change, while exploring pathways to strengthen the resilience of agricultural and ecological systems through innovative and sustainable solutions.
The conference program covers multiple topics through scientific sessions, thematic workshops, and field visits, while also including strategic discussions on pressing issues. Key themes include sustainable soil and water management in the face of climate change, agricultural innovations and their role in achieving sustainable farming, enhancing partnerships between the Global North and South in the field of food security, and developing training and capacity-building strategies for youth and researchers in agriculture and natural resource management.
This international forum represents an ideal platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences between Morocco and its global partners. It also aligns with the Kingdom’s overarching vision under the Green Generation 2020–2030 strategy, which places sustainability and innovation at the heart of agricultural development and strengthens Morocco’s position as a regional power in food security.
With the participation of 500 experts, researchers, and stakeholders from around the world, the conference will serve as a showcase for Morocco’s pioneering role as a key player in designing practical solutions to confront climate change, while consolidating its standing as a platform for dialogue and cooperation in soil and water protection—fundamental pillars for building a secure and sustainable food future for humanity.
