Morocco Celebrates World Soil Day: Towards Sustainable Soil and Water Management to Enhance Agricultural Resilience

The Moroccan capital, Rabat, is preparing to host the “Sustainable Days” event, which will take place from December 3 to 5, 2024, under the theme: “Towards Sustainable Management of Soil and Water to Strengthen the Resilience of Agricultural Systems in Morocco.” This prominent event brings together a distinguished group of experts, researchers, and practitioners in the fields of agriculture and the environment from the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Research, ICARDA, the FAO in Morocco, and several civil society organizations working in soil and water management. This gathering aims to address the challenges related to the management of natural resources, particularly soil and water, in the face of climate change that poses a threat to the stability of ecosystems and agricultural systems.

The forum aims to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of expertise among various stakeholders in the agricultural sector. The event will focus on presenting innovative solutions and modern technologies as vital tools for achieving agricultural sustainability. It will also include a series of technical workshops designed to equip participants with practical skills and actionable ideas, enhancing their ability to contribute effectively to the development of the agricultural sector.

To enrich the experience, attendees will benefit from field visits to local projects that highlight best practices in soil and water management and direct seeding techniques. These tours provide an excellent opportunity for exchanging ideas and fostering partnerships among stakeholders, working towards shared goals that serve sustainability.

World Soil Day, which is celebrated on December 5th every year, will be marked as part of the event. This day serves as an opportunity to emphasize the fundamental role of soil in supporting life and as a global call for sustainable management of this vital resource to ensure food security and environmental protection.

Through the organization of “Sustainable Days,” Morocco reaffirms its strong commitment to sustainability issues and highlights its position as a leading country in addressing environmental and climate challenges. This event is not only a scientific platform for exchanging ideas but also a message of hope and ambition for a more sustainable future, in collaboration with local and international stakeholders.
