Preparatory Consultations for the Third UN Ocean Conference – Ms. Driouch Holds Talks with the French Ambassador to Morocco

The progress made in Morocco’s participation in the upcoming Third United Nations Ocean Conference, scheduled to take place in Nice next June, was the focus of discussions held on Monday between Ms. Zakia Driouch, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, in charge of Maritime Fisheries, and Mr. Christophe Lecourtier, the French Ambassador to Morocco.

During this meeting, Mr. Lecourtier and Ms. Driouch discussed the organization of a preparatory workshop aimed at ensuring optimal coordination among stakeholders and at enhancing and unifying Moroccan and African initiatives in the field of ocean governance. They also emphasized the importance of increased mobilization around the challenges related to the sustainability of marine ecosystems.

The two officials further addressed topics of common interest, such as the preservation of marine biodiversity, the sustainable management of fishery resources, scientific and technical cooperation, maritime training, and the development of aquaculture.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of maritime fisheries, building on the positive momentum of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, and exploring prospects for new future partne rships.
